Anuruddha was a cousin of the Buddha and one of his ten principal disciples. Growing up in the midst of all luxuries, this delicate prince preferred to pass his time in the pursuit of fleeting pleasures and initially was not interested in learning Vipassana. However, after realizing ephemeral nature of life, he started practicing Vipassana and attained full liberation. Anuruddha was regarded as the foremost in acquiring faculty of the divine-eye.
